Johann Mouton

Director of ERA


He has been involved in social research methods research and training for more than 30 years. He is the author of 7 books in research methodology including Understanding Social Research (1996), The Practice of Social Research (2002, with E. Babbie) and How to Succeed in your Masters and Doctoral Studies (2001). He is the Programme Director for the Masters and Doctoral programmes in Social Science Methods and for the Post-graduate diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation Methods at Stellenbosch University where he is a professor in the department of Sociology and Social Anthropology.

He is on the editorial board of 5 international journals including the International Journal of Research Methodology. He has published more than 40 articles in peer reviewed journals, written more than 40 research and evaluation reports and given more than 100 papers at national and international conferences. He is in high demand from universities, business and government and act as technical expert to many organizations in the field of M&E and research methodology in general.




Lauren Wildschut

Co-director of ERA


She has extensive experience in the education and training sector, from Foundation to the Further Education and Training Phase. She has acted as research co-ordinator in a non-governmental organisation and as such has experience in designing instruments, fieldwork, capturing of data, analysis and report writing. She currently teaches in the MPhil programme in the Department of Sociology at the University of Stellenbosch where she focuses on both programme evaluation and qualitative research methods.

She is currently the Programme Co-ordinator for a Post-graduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation Methods at Stellenbosch University. She received an M.Phil (Social Science Methods) with distinction for a thesis entitled The role of qualitative data in a mixed-method evaluation design and is currently enrolled for a doctorate in the field of logic modeling in evaluation.

Robin Pocock

ERA Researcher

Robin completed her initial tertiary education in Psychology and Philosophy at the University of Cape Town. There she also completed her Honours in Psychology in 2008 and her Masters in Programme Monitoring and Evaluation in 2009.

She has worked as a statistical consultant for the NGO sector and has extensive experience in tutoring undergraduate social science methodology and statistics. She has experience in evaluation data collection, analysis and report writing as well as working with donors and NGOs.
